Better Late Than Never..
The following blog is one that I started writing sometime ago.. I don't really know why I didn't finish it at the time, but I figured why not add on and finish it sooner rather than later. Everyone knows about this one, is a love/hate thing many call double standards:
Well, quite a topic this one is, I try will to keep my views on this subject pointed and interesting for you all and would love your own opinions in comments on the post. By beginning I do not like the term double standards because it carries such a negative hypocritical connotation. I believe it is important to differentiate between hypocritical views people may have, and things that have become standards for the many different groups in society. Unfortunately the too often these two concept tend to be lumped together under the same umbrella of "double standards," a term I feel that us far too general to be used in description of specific situations.
That last paragraph is what I had begun with, and I can't lie I have no idea where I was going with that. I must have been reading some real academic type things since I used I whole bunch of big words. But, those are just some sidebar observations on what I read....
As for the issue of double or multiple standards, I find that they are merely a sign of the change of times and the lack of complacency that different groups find with the roles that they have grown to embody in society. These double standards only arise because I one point and time there was much truth behind them. They aren't a problem until the same group that once made the standard wants to up and change their roles. Unfortunately by the time the group that established the standard wants to be viewed in a different light, the standard is already to deeply rooted in the subconscious of the majority that continues to force that group to stick to their former role.
Both with double and general standards, there must be some room for flexibility and change. This is due to the fact that all things change with time. Unfortunately the battle against these multiple standards for different groups in society is always an uphill one because it is always a minority group trying to change the majority view. Since there is power in numbers often time old out-dated standards of views last much longer than time should allow. But, the battle is on going and whether you know it or not you're on the frontlines in your day to day life with the things you say and do.

RE: commercials. at its best.
Late late night/ early this morning I was checking out one of my fellow bloggers (Blurred Brilliance) recent postings focused on MJ and she put tons of his old commercials and videos from MJ back in the day. So, this post is just what that one put on my mind (check it out!).
One thing about media today that bothers me is that they often to much want to replace someone or make comparisons. With MJ being the greatest of course sports analyst are looking for "the next" (not gonna happen). But often Lebron is one that sports outlets try to compare with MJ, and then of course they say by going to the Heat he could NEVER live up to MJ anymore (not that he could in the first place). I'm not at all a Lebron hater I love his game and he is an incredible athlete. I'm a media hater that it so critical and judgmental on the decisions that athletes make with their careers. Anyways, just wanted to end it with a little commercial that the commercials in blog I gave the link to reminded me of that sparked this blog. Its a spin-off of that Lebron commercial that was being played at the beginning of basketball season.. ENJOY!

Anticipation
10..9...7..6...5...4...3..2...1... HAPPY NEW YEAR! Welcome 2011 and all my new and old readers. Hope you had a wonderful and safe holiday season now that its just about over. The topic that happens to be on my mind with the coming of the new year is............. Anticipation (Get it? I paused, attempting to cause some anticipation). When you think back the holiday season is full of anticipation starting, sometimes, even before Thanksgiving. Anticipation for the gifts you want, the reaction of loved ones when the open the things you got them, waiting for the first snowfall, all the way up to that big ball dropping in NYC bringing in the new year. When you think about it anticipation is what makes the holiday season sooo exciting, which I find ironic with the growing impatience of our society.
The act of anticipating is somewhat of a double edged sword when you look at the outcomes that could possibly occur. For example you get really excited for a movie to come out due to the building anticipation and excitement that you feel in watching previews and so on. Then you go on the opening night to finally see the flick and it turns out to be NOTHING compared to what you expected. Now you feel regret, a little sadness, and ALOT of anger because movies aren't cheap and you kind of want you money back. Thats the downside of anticipation and the main reason I personally avoid both having too high a level of anticipation or expectation for things forthcoming. An 18th century Irish writer puts this well well as he says: "A great source of calamity lies in regret and anticipation; therefore wise is a person who thinks of the present alone, regardless of the past or future." - Oliver Goldsmith
I am not saying that you should never try to anticipate anything, then you would often look silly and unprepared. Anticipation is part of what leads to many affluent individuals' success. From the sports, to finance, to technology anticipation is what separates the leaders from the followers. There is a need for a certain degree of expectation and preparation in order to succeed in whatever one is doing, but it is important to remember that over preparation can lead to the "calamity" that Goldsmith speaks of. Over preparation end up leaving you a more of a disadvantage if things don't go perfectly as planned (which they rarely do). Just remember FLEXIBILITY is just as vital as anticipating. Well that pretty much how I feel on the subject... how bout you?

Rebirth
If you haven't visited in awhile then you probably notice some things are a little bit different! Don't be scared I haven't gone Hollywood, just wanted to be a little more pleasant on the eyes (shout out to my mans CG on the extreme blog makeover). So, this rebirth is less of a rebirth as it is my blog hitting puberty haha. As for the future outlook, my mind has been overflowing and I can't make promises to how often I'll post, I will say that it will be more often. Maybe I'll have a week where I can give ya'll something new everyday (I dream big). Until then read my last joints, leave me comments, and/ or subscribe!

That's Just The Way It Is..
ANYWAY, from my own personal journey I find that changes come in many different ways for many different reasons. You may make a conscious decision to change to meet a personal goal or to adapt to others. Change in habits could also take place subconsciously and you may not even realize that you're now doing something due to subliminal advertising in mass media. Reasons for change vary from having seeing a movie, reading a book, hearing a story, having a baby, etc. The list is endless. Change is something we all go through, it is what makes us human. We grow physically and mentally throughout our lives, and if you aren't then you need to take a step back an make some changes (that of course excludes those with mental and physical genetic barriers).
Now you're probably saying "DUH" to all things I've just explained about change, how and why it comes. Call me captain obvious if you want but how often do you really think about the changes you have made in life and why? Maybe you don't find a need to, but growth can also come from taking a step back and reflecting on the past. That was a bit irrelevant to the topic at hand... The general conclusion my rambling is coming to is that change is good, and you should always remain open to it. At the end of the day if you are spending time avoiding or pushing away change you are stunting your own growth. I don't know about you but if I'm stunting anything that means I'm doing it BIG.. not making myself smaller. Sometimes changes are hard, sometimes they come without warning, so don't get to comfortable because there are very few guarantees in life and change is one of them...
You probably don't care about all so here's a music video you probably haven't watched in awhile:

The "Power" of Mr. West
Sometimes I wish I knew what I was like to hold the power to influence and make people pay so much attention to relatively insignificant things. At the same time I realize that as much "power" as you acquire with fame you truly lose control of yourself and freedom to do as you please when you please. I've learned first hand at school when I became über involved on campus; I spent more time planning, attending, participating, and supporting events and meetings that I didn't have much time to sit and enjoy myself; it was my obligation to make ensure the enjoyment of other. I guess that is what they call the "price of fame."
Last thing to think about when dreaming of what this power that media holds would be like if you had it is a quote directly from his song: "[Would] you have the power to let power go?"

Bottom line enjoy everyday you have beautiful and event he not so beautiful ones because the present is a gift. Hope you have a a great day as I go chill by the pool with the fellas. DUECES!
